Here’s a fun project for kids that’s out of this world!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:

To begin, arrange your beads in planetary order: small (Mercury), small (Venus), medium (Earth), small (Mars), large (Jupiter), large (Saturn), medium (Uranus), medium (Neptune).

For ease of decorating the beads, simply stick each bead onto the top of a sharpened pencil to hold, and then paint.  Paint the beads with watercolor, let dry, and then try adding detail with crayons.

Paint, or color the planets as follows:  Mercury-grey, Venus-brown, Earth-blue and green, Mars-red, Jupiter-natural color of the bead with brown stripes, and a red dot, Saturn-yellow with a brown stripe, Uranus-turquoise, Neptune-dark blue.

Decorate beads, let dry.

Cut a length of yarn the length you want your necklace to be.  Wrap a piece of tape around one end of your yarn to form a “needle” for easier stringing.  String your beads onto the yarn, with a black bead separating each planet.

Your necklace should be strung in this order: Mercury, black bead, Venus, bb, Earth, bb, Mars, bb, Jupiter, bb, Saturn, bb, Uranus,  bb, Neptune.  Add star beads as desired.

Tie the ends together, and wear your new necklace!

Happy Crafting!
